What we’re looking for:
Leo Berwick is looking for a Senior Associate, Canadian M&A Tax to join our growing deal team.
You’re the right fit for this role if –
- You currently work at a Big 4 or mid-tier firm in their transactional tax group, and you’re tired of the independence and conflict-of-interest rules dictating which deals you work on and the red tape.

You have M&A tax down to a fine art and dance circles around your peers, but you only earn a fraction more than them because of bureaucracy.

You want to learn from the best, help grow the practice, and be rewarded for your efforts. Our cash compensation packages are significantly higher than Big 4 accounting firms and other consulting practices. Less overhead means lower rates for our clients and higher compensation for you.

Responsibilities:
- Lead inbound, outbound, and domestic M&A deals, including performing tax structuring, tax modelling, tax due diligence and other tax advisory services.
- Be a trusted advisor for every Leo Berwick client and partnership.
Provide timely and quality tax advice, always aiming to exceed client expectations.

Work closely with Partners, Directors and Vice Presidents on business development and various technical tax issues dealing with inbound, outbound, and domestic M&A transactions, clean economy tax credits and tax insurance.

Review and assist clients in the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the tax data in their financial projections for the transaction.

Review tax aspects of merger agreements and legal documents; tax structuring, tax modelling, tax due diligence and other and other tax advisory services, write tax memorandums.

Develop, motivate, and train Associates.
Qualifications:
- Big 4 experience preferred or mid-tier with a focus on M&A tax
- CPA, JD, or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Tax Law, or a related field

Minimum 2 years’ experience in tax structuring, tax due diligence, modeling, and advisory services

Proven experience planning and delivering projects, including budget, billing, and collections management

Ability to clearly communicate complex tax concepts to clients

Strong analytical, research, writing, communication, and presentation skills

Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and results-focused, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced professional services environment.

Strong leadership, organizational, and tax modeling capabilities; a proactive, critical-thinking self-starter.
