Leo Berwick is looking for a Controller to join our growing operations team.

  • You can support the business with accurate, reliable, action-oriented FP&A metrics and advice, focusing onforward looking insights over standard variance analyses.
  • You can act as primary contact for the external audit, bank reporting and board reporting processes.
  • You are a versatile Finance professional willing to go outside of your scope in order to drive results and support the firm.

Salary:

  • Base salary ranges from $200,000-$300,000 based on skills, experience and qualifications.
  • All full-time employees are eligible for performance-based bonuses

Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Management:
  • Lead the development and implementation of annual projections/forecasts, budgeting, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Conduct profitability and variance analysis to identify areas for enhancement and optimization.
  • Work with the Engagement leads to improve collection days DSO.
  • Collaborate with peers on developing pro forma adjusted EBITDA calculations on a monthly basis for board reporting purposes.
  • Develop and share forward-looking analyses to support and drive business decisions
Accounting and Controllership:
  • Manage full cycle accounting processes, including monthly closing of financial statements and preparation of monthly financial reporting packages.
  • Manage the key day-to-day accounting functions, including general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Oversee the monthly close process, including journal entries and consolidation of the US and Canadian businesses.
  • Oversee payroll reconciliations.
  • Develop accounting policies, procedures, methodologies for monthly and annual close processes.
Process Improvement and Team Management:
  • Develop and implement improvements around monthly and day-to-day accounting processes.
  • Proactively ensure that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented, documented, and maintained while identifying and recommending improvements.
  • Supervise team members and effectively manage stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Work with the business unit leads and the engagement teams on outlier utilization and engagement metrics.
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with Partner to document accounting controls.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on management fees, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Assist with special projects, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field required
  • CPA or comparable accounting/finance designation in Canada or USA
  • Experience within a start-up organization
  • Experience working at a professional service organization
  • 10+ years of total experience in accounting and finance with progressive increase in responsibilities and strategic focus
  • In-depth familiarity with accounting software. Experience with NetSuite and/or Ramp is an asset
  • Experience with professional services timesheet and work in progress accounting, change orders, engagement realization reserve accounting considered a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A self-starter who is comfortable working remotely and in an unsupervised environment
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
